PHOTOGRAPHY SAFARI AND WORKSHOP |
|
Day 1 (Wednesday) BALMACEDA - COYHAIQUE |
| Reception in the Balmaceda Airport. Transfer to hotel, presentation and preliminary conversations. |
| Day 2 (Thursday) COYHAIQUE - PUYUHUAPI |
| We begin our journey along the Austral Highway after breakfast, heading north toward the Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa. We will make photographic stops at specific points along the way, assisted by the instructor. The trip takes approximately 6 hours, a large part of which is along dirt roads that wind their way through beautiful landscapes and dense forests surrounded by mountains and cliffs. In the afternoon we arrive at the Río Unión pier and board boats for the 10-minute fjord crossing to reach the Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa. |
|
Day 3 (Friday) PUERTO PUYUHUAPI Y FIORDOS |
| In the morning, a photographic session with "Puerto Puyuhuapi - A wooden village." Here we can photograph the town's quaint wooden constructions, the pier with its colorful boats, and its particularly beautiful surroundings. We'll spend the afternoon photographing "The Water of Life": sailing toward the Jacaff Channel to photograph colonies of marine birds, which will likely include a glimpse of the Flying Quetru (Taycheres patachonicus), one of the so-called "steam ducks" due to their preference to jet through water at high speed rather than fly. We will also approach the rock that is home to a large colony of cormorants. |
| Day 4 (Saturday) QUEULAT NATIONAL PARK |
| We travel first by boat and then overland to the Portezuelo sector of the Queulat National Park to photograph "The Enchanted Forest." We'll walk along a highland trail that traps the clouds, giving rise to an exceptional botanical display. At the end of the hike, we come to a large glacial valley where we can climb to a small lagoon with small floating icebergs. Later we'll stop to photograph the "Iceberg Lagoon" in the park's Hanging Glacier Sector. And there will still be time to enjoy a relaxing massage or thassotherapy session in the complete SPA when we return to the Puyuhuapi Lodge. |
| Day 5 (Sunday) PUYUHUAPI |
| In the morning, a pleasant walk through the woods "In Search of the Chucao" to photograph trees, ferns, native shrubs, and spotting wild, endemic birds, including the friendly "Chucao" (Scelorchilus rubecula) that enlivens the forests with its intense and characteristic song. In the afternoon we'll return to the Queulat National Park "On the Way to the Hanging Glacier Overlook." |
| Day 6 (Monday) PUYUHUAPI - LAGUNA SAN RAFAEL - PUERTO CHACABUCO |
| FULL DAY : Catamaran excursion to San Rafael Lagoon, without
instructor. Our day begins early. At 7:00 am we board the PATAGONIA EXPRESS catamaran and begin our journey through the austral fjords on our way to the San Rafael Lagoon. The 7-hour trip is a sheer delight to the senses: the transparency of the waters, the majesty of the Andes Mountains wrapped in lush forests, the play of light interwoven through the clouds, and sometimes... encounters with playful dolphins. Sailing through a number of channels, we finally reach the Témpanos River, which leads us to the San Rafael Lagoon, home to a millenarian glacier. After a visit of approximately 2 hours, we begin our return trip, arriving in Puerto Chacabuco around 10:30 p.m., where we will be transferred to the hotel in this port. |
| Day 7 (Tuesday) CHACABUCO - BALMACEDA |
| After breakfast, our bus takes us back along the route that follows the Simpson River, from Chacabuco to Coyhaique and then on to the airport in Balmaceda (approx. 2 hours). |
